No b) Increasing tuition rates at public universities
No c) Reducing or eliminating public worker collective bargaining
No d) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions
No e) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees

I believe we can decrease funding for corrections by revamping our criminal sentencing laws and instituting a system of restorative justice. I do not support a decrease in funding for law enforcement.
These questions do not accurately describe the issues with New Mexico's tax code. I support a global look at our tax structure so we can revamp it to reduce its regressive nature and improve the climate for small business. I also support credits for very poor families to help offset the regressive nature of our gross receipts tax, for instance.
I support use of the State Permanent School Fund for investment in early childhood education and primary education in certain instances. Otherwise, I do not favor tapping the fund for balancing the budget.

e) Should a minor who sends sexually-explicit or nude photos by cell phone face criminal charges?
No f) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Questions c, d, and e do not contain sufficient information to support a yes or no answer. I support decriminalization of possession of small amounts of marijuana. There are certain crimes and situations where I believe it is appropriate to charge minors as adults. In question e, it would depend on who the photos depicted.

a, c, and f do not provide sufficient information for yes or no answers. I support appropriate regulation of the private sector, primarily for protecting worker safety and the environment. I support changes to the unemployment system to better address the problems of long term unemployment that is rampant in New Mexico. I successfully pursued litigation that provides significant help to homeowners facing foreclosure. Direct State assistance is precluded by the Anti-donation clause of our constitution.

c and e do not provide sufficient information for yes or no answers. I believe in a system of due process for teachers employed by the state and feel that such a process will produce better results. We have many types of charter schools in the state. Whether state funding is appropriate will depend on the structure of the school.

Yes d) Do you support allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses?
e) Other or expanded principles:
I support a package of legislation that will help us jump start our economy and encourage the growth of our home grown small businesses. This includes an increase in the minimum wage. I support a program that will provide early childhood education to every New Mexico child and believe we should tap the permanent school fund to pay for the program. We must start now to plan for wise use of our water resources. I support an end to high stakes standardized testing in our schools and will return control of education to professional educators and parents.
